This dish was a big hit with my husband! I remember my mom making this when I was younger and I was never fan. As I was trying to come up with different dinner ideas I had remembered this one and got the recipe from my mom. My husband loved it and wanted to know why I waited 6 years to make it!
I made the meatballs from scratch but I'm sure the pre-made meat balls would work just fine. I think next time I'm going to double my meatballs and freeze them for a quick dinner in the future.
Meatballs
1 pound hamburger
1/2 dried bread crumbs-mine were Italian flavored
1/4 milk
2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 egg
Mix all together in a bowl. Shape into the size ball you want. Cook in a sauce pan for twenty minutes. Occasionally flipping them over. Place on separate plate and drain the fat.
Sweet & Sour
1/2 cup brown sugar-packed
1 Tbsp Corn Starch
1 Can Pineapple chunks-the bigger can with syrup
1/3 cup Vinegar
1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
1 small green pepper-cut into chunks
In the same pan you used for the meat balls, mix brown sugar and cornstarch. Stir in the pineapple with syrup, vinegar and soy sauce. Heat to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and add in cooked meatballs. Cover and simmer for 10 min stirring occasionally. Next add in the green peppers and cook additional 5 minutes.
Serve over white rice

I love this dish. I haven't made it in forever, so thank you for the reminder of a long-lost love! I even have meatballs in the freezer right now. Maybe I will make this this weekend, for dinner during the week. Yum!
